The Grow Green Youth
Entrepreneur Program enables students to learn
valuable business skills at a young age, while
at the same time it improves their math, reading
and science skills.
The garden and the
vegetables the students grow are the vehicles
for teaching and reinforcing these skills. The
skills these students acquire will give them an
advantage as they enter adulthood.
The students have a
variety of vegetables in their garden. These
vegetables include cherry tomatoes, eggplant,
watermelon, jalapeno peppers, carrots, corn, collard
greens, radishes, and more.
Youth sell the
vegetables at a local farmer’s market right
alongside other entrepreneurs. At the market,
students get first-hand learning experiences on how
to present products and interact with customers to
get them to buy the products.
Communication skills
are also learned and are essential to the success of
the students and the program.
